For some, golf is the ultimate getaway and there is perhaps no place more peaceful to play than at the Androscoggin Valley Country Club in the heart of the Mount Washington Valley
Ringed by regal mountains and with a river running alongside it, this 18-hole Par 70 course is one of New Hampshire's most scenic with cloud capped peaks deep in the distance beyond the lush greens. With wide, tree-flanked fairways and water hazards coming into play on seven holes, each tee offers a new treat and a challenge, with four Par 5's and eight Par 4's
The club was founded in 1922, and offered nine holes –designed by Alex Chisolm– until 2002, when the back nine –designed by Horace Smith– were added. Three sets of tees are available, and the course features 6,110 yards of golf from the longest tees and boasts a course rating of 70.1 and a slope rating of 118.
The Androscoggin Valley Country Club is located on Route 2 in Gorham New Hampshire, just one mile east of the Top Notch Inn. The course is open to the public and green fees for 9-holes of play are $20 per person on the weekdays ($32 with a cart) and $25 on the weekend/holidays ($37 with cart) or for 18-holes, $30 per person on the weekdays ($50 with cart) and $35 on the weekend/holidays ($55 with cart). Specials are also available for those golfing after 1 p.m.
In addition to a driving range, the club also offers a full pro shop and a cafeteria open daily. For more information or to schedule a tee time, call 1-603-466-9468 or visit the Androscoggin Valley Country Club at www.avccgolf.com
